The Malaysian Goverment has warned internet users for excessive use of micro-blogging sites like FaceBook,Twitter,Orkut etc, arguing that they could erode the country's culture.
The Information and communication minister Mr. Rais Yatim said that Muslims and other religious groups must be away of the internet as it was introduced by the west.
"We are not saying they cannot use Facebook or Twitter, but when using such facilities, they must upkeep the values taught by Islam, Buddhism or Christianity to maintain our culture,"
Rais said users must not be influenced by what they see and hear when using the Internet."We must be strong in our belief and culture because the identity and image of our country depends on us,"

I think his effort is not due to the culture, it's more according to his religious beliefs. But these debates are like an neverending story, keeping up the culture is getting harder while easy communication is granted through modern sciences, inventions and media and being aware of loosing it is not a bad thought but considering that he is against influence from other thoughts is not what will lead to further evolution.
ReplyDeleteBtw: Culture is not only defined by religion. There are many! other factors like history. And who said religions can not change? Some people always live their life after rules important to the time they have been made, others are trying to put the ideas behind them rules and thoughts which caused them into the modern way of life, western or not. Maybe religion has to change to while people, science and the way of life is changing. Evolution is why we are human!
I can not agree more than this, well said Hanz ..
ReplyDeleteIts a gift of Modern Science that globalization of social blogging is now CULTURE ITSELF more than within culture, let be any culture.
whats more, it has emerged new identity into defining culture definitions.
I mean gemme 1 other way where billions of people from different corners of the world can connect and share how they feel about a certain thing.
If we talk about religion here, social blogging can help people understand how the same religion is been carried in different environments of the world.
Excessive use is bad for anything but who and how someone can define howmuch is too much?.
I think he underestimated the power of micro-blogging and certainly haven’t read why Google investing billions of dollars in blogging culture in coming future.
