SEO is an ongoing business but recession make this business more valuable and stable Because while the recession makes many industries wrench in pain, many SEO professionals are in top financial shape and full of optimism for the future. I wont say that SEO industry dosent get the heat of recession but as compare to other industry like Banking,Automobile, Real Estate etc. SEO seems to be more financialy secured. SEO industry and the separate individuals, who make their living in SEO, are much better than many other employees and entrepreneurs. During a recession SEO is even more important. That is why many clients decide that an aggressive SEO campaign will help them get more clients and as a result these clients double their pre-recession budgets.
The recession who gave pain to many Industry but give some Smile to SEO industry because :-
Recession give opportunity for new entrepreneurs.
Market need deep penetration.Where SEO help a lot.
SEO expenses are usually not that big but they help a company to stay aboard
SEO has great ROI.Stop SEO and the money stops coming as well.
SEO is Cheaper than traditional promotion methods. So clients are looking more SEO work.SEO as their major way to promote their business and attract new clients.
The outlook for SEO Industry during times of recession is quite positive.It is possible that you experience drops in volumes of your clients but as a whole SEO offers more stability than many other industries. If you manage to take advantage of the recession you are a real professional, you won't have the pleasure to feel the recession in all its bitterness.

What I think, recession causing the declination of SEO industry growth and CERTAINLY all expectation of more than 100% growth in next two years is not going to be acheived now. Businesses had started shifting their marketing budget from offline to online few years back and were increasing year by year but this recession phase will put everything back to beginning line.

Recession gave smile to SEO doesn't mean that there is no drop in volumes and everybody in SEO is working for top dollar but as a whole the SEO industry and the separate individuals, who make their living in SEO, are much better than many other employees and entrepreneurs.
